Phoenix Draw with Queensland

18 December, 2007

Yet another game of soccer where the Phoenix fail to impress the crowds. The coach obviously needs another viewing spot of the game as he seemed to be sending the wrong player off each time and keeping the lame ones on – Grr!

It was a fun night up on the corporate level, the box had a few Xmas parties in it, one company which I knew very well – Merry Xmas Windsor Engineering!

I ended up popping one of my bangers on the walk out with my fingernail – how depressing, they were so much fun.

The Christmas spirit was definitely in the air.

Funeral’s are what we make them

17 December, 2007

Celebrations of life or times for mourning, or both?

My family recently had the unfortunate experience of my Grandfathers funeral.  We decided to make it a time of celebration.  For what could have been a very religious affair was quite fun and jovial, much to the priests disgust.

Everyone who wanted to say something had the opportunity and the grandchildren performed their remake of ’In the Jungle’ that was recently written for Grandads 80th at Labour Weekend.

The next eldest in the family now is Marieke 54yrs and the first thing she said afterwards (note it was stifling hot and muggy in Palmerston North on Monday) ‘Grandad won’t mind if we have a beer now, will he?’

I laughed – the rest of the day was spent drinking, chatting, laughing, taking the piss and playing sports on the road.

The family cried and grieved then celebrated.

This is one of the most loving, giving and caring families I have come across – glad I am a part of it :)

Beckham Turns on a Crowd

4 December, 2007

Yes! He finally took off his shirt – I had to wait near on two hours for Beckham to get his gear off.

Oh and there was a record crowd of New Zealand soccer fans, 31,853 to be exact, packed in to the stadium. Down in the stands again, the best place to be when atmosphere is required.

Game over and twinkle toes had performed his magic for us and scored a goal to adults (big children) banging away on their Sony sticks.

I thought the tackle on the female streaker from five security guards was a bit heavy handed – it would have definitely hurt. The antics of others always makes a game more entertaining. Good one Marc Ellis!

The 4-1 win to LA Galaxy provided a great chance for some up and coming players to say that they have played against David Beckham.

Diving, biking and Kiwi BBQ’s was the cherry on top of a sunny Wellington weekend for the out of towners.

Phoenix Draw the Crowds

4 December, 2007

On Friday night 18,345 fans rolled in to the Westpac Trust Stadium to watch the Phoenix take on Adelaide.

We had a great night, it was actually the first game I had sat down in the grandstand with the crowds. If you are a regular corporate box attendee I recommend going down in to the stands every now and again as the atmosphere is a lot better – it was fantastic!

Adelaide won 2-1 but a good night was had by all.

A nice warm-up for what was going to be a soccer filled weekend.
